In mid-September of 2024, I spent five days with Tony Sweet and Susan Milestone making photos in the Badlands National Park and surrounding area. We began each day shooting the sunrise until the light got too harsh, then switched to making infrared images, and ended each day with a sunset shoot.
I began to appreciate the uniqueness of this place: the dynamic, dramatic shapes of the sediment formations and their soft, warm colors. This was best captured early in the day – just before the sun broke the horizon.
